Mehdi MAJIDI

Professional Profile

Mehdi Majidi is a university professor and international consultant in sustainable socioeconomic development. He is founder and president of the Libra Alliance, an education and consulting services organization that aims to empower current and future leaders with the knowledge and knowhow to create change that advances social and environmental sustainability as central to economic progress.
Throughout his career, in diverse settings and institutional environments, Dr. Majidi has been a catalyst for effectively bringing issues of sustainable socioeconomic development to bear on a variety of enterprises, ranging from academia to the private sector to World Bank-funded projects. He is a national award-winning entrepreneur and takes this approach in all his endeavors.

In higher education, his current focus is helping universities take advantage of opportunities created by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). He believes that the SDGs and PRME can be transformational. He is also a founding member of a UN working group on the SDGs in higher education.

Dr. Majidi has a proven track record of creating and successfully putting into practice new visions in management education. He served as the chair of International Business Administration (IBA) where he spearheaded development of a new strategic direction for the IBA Department. He also designed and managed a unique, dual-degree graduate program in cross-cultural and sustainable business management. He has conceived and brought to life innovative, interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate curricula blending business management studies with the liberal arts. These courses were geared toward inspiring future leaders to search for private-sector opportunities in accelerating sustainable socioeconomic development by developing financially rewarding new business models aligned with SDGs.

His educational philosophy blends practical, real-world concerns with theoretical knowledge, providing students with a rich, balanced experience, including access to his extensive network of international experts. He also provides consulting services to academic institutions, including blueprinting and delivering executive workshops, academic learning assessments and progress evaluation.

In his current, World Bank-funded consulting project, Dr. Majidi has successfully pushed for the addition of inclusiveness, social entrepreneurship and environmental initiatives. He advocates socially inclusive economic progress through innovative business models and by creating conditions to support fair access to resources. His consulting experience includes sustainable socioeconomic development, educational curriculum development, professional training programs, skills gap assessment and workforce development. He has worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers Global Consulting and IBM Global Business Services at the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Education, the World Bank on domestic and international projects

Dr. Majidi received both his Ph.D., in international business strategy and cross-cultural management, and his Executive M.B.A. from the George Washington University. His professional life has taken him on assignments in many countries on six continents. He speaks several languages and in France has won the French Entrepreneurs’ National Award.
